My Life

I am a native of New York and Chicago, USA. My father served in the Navy, so our family moved often while I was growing up. My mother’s family was from Louisiana and later relocated to Chicago, IL. After my parents’ divorce, I lived in San Francisco with my father and my eldest sister, and it was there that I received my high school diploma.

I later moved to Chicago to live with my mother’s family. There, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Rush University, Presbyterian–St. Luke’s, with a major in Adolescent Psychiatry in 1976. I then received my master’s degree in Educational Counseling from Roosevelt University in 1979.

In 2015, I received my PhD in Christian Counseling from Newburgh Theological Seminary in Newburgh, In., uniting my clinical training with a deep call to serve through Christ-centered care.

Her approach is both compassionate and evidence-based, offering a unique path to restoration that honors the spiritual journey as much as the psychological one. Through her books and speaking engagements, Dr. Nyako empowers others to find light in the darkness and strength in their vulnerability, fostering a community of healing and resilient growth.

My Call to Ministry

At age twenty-seven, I felt a strong spiritual calling from my Heavenly Father. I was married to a neurologist and caring for a newborn son, yet I knew the Lord was clearly calling me into ministry. I realized I had to hearken to His voice.

As a child and young teen, I endured unspeakable abuse. Over time, I came to see that my experiences could be used as a beacon of hope for others who had been deeply wounded. Having spent years in professional counseling myself, I sensed the Lord calling me to bridge the gap between clinical counseling and spiritual healing—to offer care for the whole person.

I later entered private practice with a licensed psychiatrist and became an ordained minister. Through this work, I have provided spiritual guidance, counseling, and support for women, men, and children seeking healing. I am also the parent for life of my autistic son, while carrying the grief of my firstborn son, who has passed on.

Currently serves as Pastor and Founder of, Is A Must Gospel Ministries (on-line), registered with the State of IL as a Not For Profit LLC (Corporation) since 2009.

Previously served as Associate Pastor of Living Waters Missionary Baptist Church, and Director of Christian Education (2015-2019)Hammond, In, under the leadership of Pastor Homer Walker.
